[TEAM20 Award for New Talent in Architecture and Urban Planning]
Focus on design works of new graduates and the protagonist of great potentials – youngsters in their 20s, committing to the purpose of exchanges of various aspects and parties. TEAM20 Architecture and Urban Planning Competition is a type of design competition in which participants are invited to submit design proposals for a new building, structure, or development of architecture, urban and rural planning, environmental engineering and designing, and issues concerning people and land. Architecture competition is a popular way of generating ideas for new building designs, and as a way to stimulate public debate and publicity for a project.


Graduate design is the accumulation of years of learning and achievements of architecture students. Going through the journey of discovering issues, selecting bases, investigating and analyzing, proposing solutions, to completing their own designs, students are to overcome a number of challenges and thrive on their perspectives. All in all, the process and experience of creating graduate design would surely be unforgettable and lasting in the heart of the contestants.


TEAM20 Architecture and Urban Planning Competition is the most indicative and distinguished event of the year for the academics in the related field. The event started off as an exchange and a design competition based on graduate design. In addition to inviting teams in Taiwan, China and Hong Kong, it is extending to architecture and urban planning related industries, government authorities as well academic institutions all over Asia, in order to stimulate and to inspire through exchanging with different perspectives.


The judging panel consists of representatives from various universities and corporations. They will witness and celebrate the achievement of the new graduates, and provide them with holistic feedback and guidance to strengthen their capabilities in exploring and researching for different approach and practice of environment and habitats that are most suitable to human beings. TEAM20 Architecture and Urban Planning Competition sets off to take place in Taichung for the first time this year, this is to promote extensive inspection of a different city and to create an opportunity for contestants and teachers from all over the world to experience different part of Taiwan.

  • Preliminary Competition
    Each contestant has 10 minutes for presenting their design work (The organiser will remind you at 7 minutes by ringing the bell, and ask you to stop at 10 minutes by ringing the bell twice). Each contestant will then have 10 minutes of jurors’ reviews and comments on their design work after the presentation.
    - Classroom allocation: The location (classroom) for each team is determined according to the drawing lots result on the first day. (The representatives of each team will draw lots for themselves. If there is no representative present for their team, the organiser will do so for them and announce the results there and then.)
    - Order of design work reviewing: The order of design work reviewing of each classroom is determined by drawing lots. (Jurors will register at 8:00 am on the day of preliminary competition, and the order will be drawn in each classroom at 8:45.)
    - Preliminary score: The jury will vote by secret ballot.
    Each juror will select 2 pieces of works they like the most, and give them 2 points and 1 point respectively. The jurors then add up the points for each work. The 2 works of the highest scores will enter the finals.
    If there are multiples pieces of the same scores, the jurors will have a second vote by each giving 1 extra point to their preferred work. Add up the points again and let the work of higher score enter the finals.
    However, if there are still works of the same scores after the second vote, the jurors of the group will determine who the finalist is.
    There will be 2 pieces of design work from each classroom entering the final competition.
    The jury of the preliminary competition will not be participating in the design work reviewing of their own university team.

     

  • Final Competition
    Each contestant has 10 minutes for presenting their design work (The organiser will remind you at 7 minutes by ringing the bell, and ask you to stop at 10 minutes by ringing the bell twice), they will then have 10 minutes of jurors’ reviews and comments after their presentation.
    - Order of design work reviewing: After the preliminary round is completed, each classroom will announce the finalists, and the finalists will go to the designated classroom to draw the order for design work reviewing in the finals. If the finalists fail to draw lots for themselves, the organiser will do so for them.

 

1. Participants: All new university graduates from department of Architecture and Urban Planning, Structure and Interior and other relevant departments.


2. Formation: Each university are limited to register one team of up to 4 student representatives and up to 2 jurors.


3. Requirement: Taiwanese students shall arrange to travel to the competition venue by themselves, they could decide whether they would like to attend on Day 1; students from abroad are required to participate the whole event (throughout July 30th to 1st August).


4. Regulations:
(1) TEAM20 Architecture and Urban Planning Competition is for the invited only
(2) University or department invited by the organizer shall recommend contestants who have produced outstanding graduation design work to enter the competition.
If any university has more than two departments invited, the departments shall negotiate amongst themselves to determine which team to send on behalf of the university.
(3) The contestants will be put into 2 different groups according to their design content and characteristics of the works. The designation is not subject to the contestants’ graduation department. The contestants shall select a group when registering, and changing groups after registration is not allowed.
Architecture Design works of interior or exterior space, structure and form of the buildings and building complexes
Urban Planning Design works dealing with neighbourhoods, communities or organization of urban and rural space
(4) The invited university or department shall enter the competition as a team, submitting up to 4 pieces of design work in the entire competition, and up to 3 pieces in individual group.
(For example: If a university has submitted 3 pieces of work in Architecture group, then they shall only submit 1 piece in Urban Planning group.)
(5) Each piece of design work shall be represented by 1 student only. All the students who co-designed the submitted work shall hand in a copyright notice with their signatures.
If it is incorrect or unclear, the organiser reserves the right of disqualifying the work.

 

Awards for Architectural Design Group:

Winner of 1st Place Award will receive a NT$60,000 prize, a trophy and a certificate.

Winners of Merit Award (2nd, 3rd and 4th place) will receive NT$20,000 in prize, a trophy and a certificate.

The receivers of Nomination Award will get a trophy and certificate.

The Special Award, a special prize for humanity, will receive a NT$10,000 prize, a trophy and a certificate.

Awards for Urban Planning Group:

Winner of 1st Place Award will receive a NT$60,000 prize, a trophy and a certificate.
